Sufficient Health Fats
Current science has sufficiently debunked the myth of fat phobia, and the uncovered the need for a full spectrum of fatty acids. Fats play critical roles in essential processes like cell membrane formation, sex hormone production, protection/insulation of organs, and storing and releasing energy, and this even includes saturated fat.
As such, Ample was designed to contain sufficient saturated, monounsaturated, and omega-3s without excess omega-6s.
Each serving of Ample contains nearly 10g of organic coconut oil, which are rich in easily-absorbed saturated fats called medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). MCTs bypass the lymphatic system that long-chain triglycerides (LCTs) go through and are absorbed directly into the portal system, which sends them to the liver to be oxidized for energy. Thus, MCTs are rapidly digested and are an exceptional short-term energy source for the body and brain.
Coconut also contains a full-spectrum of long chain triglycerides, which are absorbed more slowly, thus making them an ideal long-term energy source.
Chia Seed Oil
While most nuts/seeds contain a high amount of omega-6 fatty acids and a lower amount of omega-3 fatty acids, chia seeds contain the inverse, with a whopping 3:1 ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids. This makes chia seed oil ideal for fighting inflammation associated with excess omega-6 fatty acid intake. It also increases satiety and controls blood sugar.
Macadamia Nut Oil
Macadamia nut oil contains the highest concentration of monounsaturated fatty acids (nearly 80% of total fat content) of any oil. Research suggests that diets rich in macadamia nut oil reduce LDL cholesterol and promote cardiovascular health.
Sunflower lecithin is a phospholipid with an abundance of choline, a necessary intermediate for proper neurotransmitter production. Lecithin is commonly used as an emulsifier to increase miscibility of oil and water, as well as increase the efficiency of fatty acid digestion.
Fiber and Prebiotics
The human gut contains nearly three pounds of bacteria - comprised of over 1000 different species - that help us digest and absorb nutrients from food1. These microbes are collectively referred to as our gut microbiome, which is crucial for healthy endocrine regulation, immune function, and even body-weight regulation. The gut microbiome feeds on undigested fiber and prebiotics.
We formulated Ample to include soluble fiber, insoluble fiber, resistant starch, and fructooligosaccharides to optimally flourish healthy gut bacteria (or healthy microbiome).
Organic Banana Resistant Starch
The discovery of digestion-resistant starches is a relatively recent breakthrough in nutritional science. Resistant starches can have pronounced health benefits, as prebiotics that improve gut health and enhance absorption of vital nutrients. Research suggests that resistant starches from banana flour promote digestive health by influencing growth of healthy microbiota in the gut.
Moreover, banana resistant starch is a potent prebiotic digested similarly to other soluble dietary fibers; it’s fermented in the colon to short-chain fatty acids such as propionate, butyrate, and acetate, which are easily oxidized for energy and to feed healthy intestinal flora.
Organic Jerusalem Artichoke Inulin
Artichoke is composed mainly of a special type of soluble fiber called fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS). FOS act as prebiotics by stimulating growth of healthy gut bacteria. They have been also been shown to improve mineral absorption and blood lipid profiles.
Organic Acacia Fiber
Acacia fiber, also referred to as gum arabic, is a type of soluble fiber sourced from the sap of Acacia senegal trees. Studies have shown that acacia fiber helps lower cholesterol levels, keep blood sugar in check, promote healthy digestion, and protect against diabetes.
Organic Psyllium Husk
Psyllium is a form of fiber made from the husks of the Plantago ovata plant’s seeds. Psyllium husk acts as a prebiotic, has a naturally laxative property to promote a healthy bowel, and adds viscosity to Ample, resulting in a rich thickness.
Excess poor quality carbohydrates can have a negative impact on hormone response, inflammation, and oxidative stress. Resistance to the hormones insulin and leptin can cause type-2 diabetes, increase risk of obesity, and induce feelings of lethargy. When excessive oxidative stress and inflammation persist, DNA can be damaged; in turn, this weakens the immune system, expedites age-related neurodegeneration, and contributes to development of conditions like diabetes, arthritis, and hypertension.
Given this, we formulated Ample with minimal amounts of sugar to avoid excess oxidative stress, while sourcing clean sources of starch to provide fuel without the insulin spike.
Organic Sweet Potato Starch
Sweet potato starch is very low in sugar and digests slowly to promote satiety, healthy blood glucose levels, and provide lasting energy.
Tapioca is a starch (dextrin) derived from the cassava root, which grows naturally in Brazil that provides lasting energy without the sugar.
The scientific community is just now understanding the complexities of micronutrients, from how vitamins and minerals relate to each other to how antioxidants and other phytochemicals affect our bodies. Research shown that natural ingredients have significantly high bioavailability, meaning that the body incorporates natural ingredients better than synthetic vitamins.
As such, Ample derives its vitamins, minerals and other antioxidants exclusively from natural sources like nutrient-packed greens.
Chlorella is a very nutrient-dense algae containing abundant amounts of Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3 and B6. It is also rich source of vital minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and zinc. Chlorella contains a high concentration of a health-promoting omega-3 fatty acid called eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). EPA is a unique polyunsaturated fatty acid that has been shown to reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, fight inflammation, and increase insulin sensitivity.
Organic Wheat Grass
Wheatgrass contains a full spectrum of nutrients, including chlorophyll, amino acids, minerals, vitamins, and enzymes. It is suggested that wheatgrass stimulates healthy tissue cell growth and build red blood cells. In fact, 100g of wheatgrass powder has the micronutrient capacity of a whopping 23kg of fresh vegetables.
Organic Barley Grass
Barley grass is one of the most abundant cereal grains on Earth and is high in micronutrients (especially manganese and phosphorus). Barley grass has exceptional antioxidant capacity, containing nearly 20 times as many antioxidants as an equivalent amount of spinach.
Cocoa is rich in polyphenols such as flavonoids, tannins, and stilbenes, and has been shown to provide numerous benefits, ranging from enhanced glucose metabolism, cardioprotective properties, improved platelet functions, and increased fatty acid oxidation.
Recent research shows the emerging importance of probiotics and healthy gut flora for protection against gastrointestinal maladies such as inflammatory bowel disease and even colorectal cancer. Moreover, probiotics act as a barrier of sorts against common pathogens, enhance immune system defense, and promote absorption of key nutrients from food.
To optimize to gut microbiome and digestive health, Ample is packed with not only prebiotics such as fiber and resistant starch, but also 40 billion colony-forming units (CFUs) of a potent six-strain blend of probiotics.
The challenge with probiotics is the ability for the microbes to survive until consumption, as well as surviving the acidic environment of the digestive tract to eventually germinate in the lower intestines. B. coagulans is unique in that it is a spore-forming probiotic, which means it has a significantly improved ability to survive until germinating in the gut. B. Coagulans has been shown to improve digestive tract health, specifically aiding those with IBS.
L. acidophilus is a lactic acid bacteria that naturally grows in the small intestine. It is often used to treat lactose intolerance, Crohn’s Disease and gut dysbiosis, and is very resistant to stomach acid. L. acidophilus has also been shown to produce folate (vitamin B9) within the body.
Like L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus is a lactic acid bacteria colonizing the small intestine and is a very important regulator in helping our immune system function optimally. It also has an ability to aid in digestion of lactose by the creation of lactase, as well as creating folate and vitamin B12.
Bifidobacterium genus are lactic acid bacteria that colonize the gut. Known for their mechanisms in containing resistance to bile salts (important since the bacteria needs to get past some very harsh digestion!). Like Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium aid in the digestion of lactose and are also critical for creating B vitamins.
In addition to vitamin synthesis, B. infantis is widely used to normalize gut bacteria function. It has shown to reduce symptoms of IBS. Has a wide variety of enzymes to digest many different oligosaccharides (good for us because it will help break down indigestible material!) and has been found to be a better bacterial colonizer than other species. Is also great at bile salt resistance. Lots of research with this one in infants, as one of the first exposures is through breast milk. In the beginning months, the human gastrointestinal tract contains about 90% colonization through the genus Bifidobacteria) (along with Lactobacilli).
L. paracasei is similar to that of the other Lactobacillus. Additionally, it consumes fructo-oligosaccharides found in the inulin, and has been shown to inhibit the growth of H. pylori and Salmonella enterica.
